The small things in life

A reflection on the past ~30 hours
Today is my day to enjoy the small things of life:lunch
Class (prof had a breakdown, I think he hit his head against the floor)
Chess (game in progress)
My Bible (and my notes tucked inside)
A time of sharing (KSYG)
Breakfast with a friend
Note from your little sis
Newspaper
A delicious lunch (the reason for this post)

I hope and pray that you can find it in you to thank God for the little things in life.

Someone study that game of chess and help me out....I'm not doing very well.....actually I might be....I haven't a clue how you tell if you're doing good at chess or not or for that matter how to even play!

ohhhh chess!!
I'd help you, Tif, but I always lose. :(

Small blessings in life:
getting to sleep in
remembering that though someone scraped paint off my new car...it's just a car, and I'm still pretty darn fortunate to have it :)
the opportunity to sign up to 'mentor' freshman MNE students
getting to read encouraging and fun blog postings
seeing my roommates already today :)

what was this about your professor hitting his head?

It was hilarious!! My STAT prof was explaining the intricacies of random effect variances, Satterthwaite, and REML. Like half of the class was really struggling and the other half really didn’t care. So several students (yours truly and others) asked some questions and made a comment about discrepancies on the board. He just exploded. It is was a controlled explosion done mostly to express this frustration with the presentation and his error on the board. So..

he ran the eraser over the board a few times. And fell to his knees on the floor. He was hitting the floor with his head or his arms and crying NO No no no. It was unique. Probably something I would do it I was a teacher.

Spud: No potatoes in there, just some great pasta and a cooked tomatoe (sorry, that would be your close kin) and garlic bread(no relation) :P

I'm impressed that you have the WSJ on the coffee table there.

That is quite amazing about your professor. I must say that none of mine have done anything even close to that interesting this year.

kersh, your picture does a good job of displaying that simplicity you're talking about. It's not simple because each thing is simple, but because you managed to fit it all (comfortably) in a 3" x 4" picture.

To be honest, if any of my professors did anything quite as "interesting" (as kelbs put it) as that, my guess is they would've already been sent to an insane asylum...or maybe Canada. He might need a break. In any case, I hope he's getting better.

My simple things:
- mom's food (there's always some leftovers around...this week, it's chili soup -- wonderful)
- pasta (difficult to screw up, fun to experiment with)
- friends that leave weird messages on my voicemail
- family that leave boring messages on my voicemail
- the leather covered Bible that was given me by a good friend
- wool socks

Looks like a nice enough lunch for me to eat! Hope your trip back from college weekend and Clint & Alesa's wedding went well. One of these days, Lord willing, I will make it out there to visit.

Adios!
